What is a Receipt?

A receipt is proof of payment issued by a seller after a transaction has been completed. Unlike an invoice (which requests payment), a receipt confirms that payment has already been received. Receipts are used for expense tracking, tax records, warranties, and customer confidence.

How to use the Receipt Generator

  1. 1

🏢 Enter your store / business details

Fill in your business name and address at the top. For point-of-sale receipts, this is typically your store name and location.

  2. 2

    🔢 Confirm the receipt number

A unique receipt number auto-increments for each new receipt (e.g. RCT-001, RCT-002). This is your audit trail.

  3. 3

    💳 Set payment method

Select how the buyer paid — Cash, Credit Card, Bank Transfer, Mobile Money, etc. This appears on the receipt for record-keeping.

  4. 4

    ➕ Add items sold

List each item with its description, SKU code (optional), quantity, and rate. The total calculates automatically.

  5. 5

    💵 Enter amount tendered (optional)

For cash transactions, enter the amount the customer handed over. The generator will automatically calculate and display the change due.

  6. 6

🖨️ Download Standard or Thermal PDF

Click "Download PDF" for an A4 receipt, or toggle the "Thermal (80mm)" switch to generate a compact receipt optimised for thermal printers.

Field Reference

Receipt # Auto-increments for every new receipt you create (RCT-001, RCT-002...). Used to track transactions and for customer queries.
Reference # An optional cross-reference to another document — e.g. the original invoice number or order number this receipt relates to.
Payment Method How the customer paid: Cash, Credit Card, Debit Card, Bank Transfer, Cheque, or Mobile Money. Shown on the receipt for transparency.
SKU / Item Code An optional product code per line item. Useful for retail or inventory management where each product has a unique code.
Amount Tendered The cash amount the customer physically handed over. Enter this to auto-calculate Change Due — the amount to return to the customer.
Thermal (80mm) mode Generates a compact PDF sized to 80mm thermal paper used by point-of-sale printers. Text is smaller and the layout is optimised for narrow receipt printers.
